peach pit

New shoe steppin in dog shit
Took one puff now I can't quit
Crackin my teeth on a peach pit
I took it for granted, never could stand it
A whole different planet
Somewhere we could make it
Pecan trees in tidy rows and
Drinking water from the hose
I burned all of my clothes
I feel alive now
String the lights up in the garden
Bless your heart and beg your pardon
Roll around in my yard
I feel alive now, alive
Screen porch keepin the bugs out
A bucket of mud to paint the house
Box fan on and the radio loud
I wanted to fit it, couldn't deny it
Identify it
Somewhere we could make it

I took a trip fishing with my dad in his boat
In the cool of October
Packed up all our things and sailed off into the morn
While my mother watched and waved
We cast out deep in the middle of the pond
Couldn’t snag a single bite
But all around us were dead carp, floating and swollen
With our nets we hauled them in
They ruptured and thanked us for being so kind
We shuddered in the breeze and the water poured in
And brought us down into the pond
The fish were gone
We swam to the shore and looked to the sky
And didn’t see a thing
Except our own reflections, crying,
And wondering why we had ever come at all

bag of words

I have got this bag of words
Wriggling round like worms
Adjectives and verbs that I've collected
Macadamia's fine
And dollop is divine
Pernicious is snarling to escape
Under my bed I keep them
Rip and rascal make a fuss
Waiting for the day I release them
High up on the mountain
I'll cut em loose and I'll share em with my friends
In this big ol bag of words
I've got giggle and superb
Pickle and absurd, they keep me smiling
Still have never met
A word that's heavy like regret
Innocence is lighter than even pebble
Under my bed I keep them
Worry acts like the boogeyman
Waiting for the day I release them
High up on the mountain
I'll let them spread their wings and watch em fly
You ask me how I feel now
I rummage around this empty bag and realize
I don't know

Come take my hand, we'll walk in the street
Under the flickering yellow and sweet
Big yolky eyes on a sheen peachy tapestry
Do you still get thrills when you try something new
Or worry your wrinkles might show if you do
You said I'm not old, I've just got a bad attitude
Smellin the flowers we stole from the neighbors
We'll be on the front page of the paper
We make a clean break, we're laughing and scared
I button my cape and I fly down the stairs
And stick in the mud and now I'm not going anywhere
You can say anything, anything, anything, and everything
As long as you mean it
You can say anything
Please won't you say what you mean

My son, I will keep you so safe and so warm
Cling to my breast and we'll weather this storm
You may be a bastard, but I'll take the blame
And maybe your future won't look quite the same
I'll clip your wings so you'll never quite fly
And I'll build this nest 'til it tickles the sky
So save all your similes, just what do they mean
There's something your mother can never keep clean
Oh my dirty bastard son
Don't be a poet, I'd rather you just be a fool
Don't be a poet, my son how could you be so cruel
Don't be a poet, I'd rather you just be a fool

We were meant to bend, not break
And I never make mistakes
Found a boy to tug on your dress
Are you happy now
I've never been one to know what to say
But these days it's harder to mean anything
Please close the door when you go
I know where you're going, but you don't

best girl i know
06:22
|

When I very first met her, I said nice to meet you
She acted as she hadn't heard a thing
At least I thought so, and we left together
She packed me up and drove my drunk ass home
I told her I was sorry, could I make it up to you
She grimaced for a second, then she laughed
She said she'd love to, are you free tomorrow
And if you've got them, bring your bowling shoes
And if you say hello to the best girl I know
Would you tell her that I moved back and I got that new job
And if she'd like to visit and leave Louisiana
There'll always be a place for you back home
Call me if you ever feel alone
Well we climbed some mountains and we ate some bagels
Our fingers spread word of our happiness
Late September when we rustled with the leaves
Skipping stones and floating down the creek
When I very first met her with her new perfume on
I know she didn't put it on for me
But it was lovely and we clung to the moment
Knowing we were really you and me
And if you say hello to the best girl I know
Would you tell her that I moved back and I got that new car
And if she'd like to visit and leave Louisiana
There'll always be a place for you back home
Call me if you ever feel alone
If you think you're willing to leave your favorite city
Baby if you're willing, take the chance
She said she'd love to, are you free tomorrow
And if you've got them, bring your bowling shoes

blood moon
06:11
|
|||
I'm moving quickly through the overhanging trees
All the gutters are overflowing
There's moss in the cracks of the sidewalk
And two blocks away, I can see your figure floating
I'm holding a small bouquet
From the bushes up Yonah way
Binoculars around my neck
We're gonna haunt this neighborhood
We gotta get it while the gettin's good
I call out your name
Waiting on a blood moooon
In Boulevard
Every time I saw yoooou
In Boulevard
We never went far
You played guitar, I put the bouquet in a bell jar
And filled it up with rain
Green lights stream in from outside
And I see your reflection dancing on the windowpane
We search the sky for what we came to see
You said it's overcast, why bother
We'll plant our feet here on the ground
Better catch it next time around
In another hundred years
Waiting on a blood moooon
In Boulevard
Never want to leave yoooou
In Boulevard
It's too hard

piece of my puzzle
03:18
|
|||
You are the missing piece of my puzzle
If I've got you, I've got it all
Now that everything is in it's right place
I'm gonna frame my puzzle and put it on my wall
If you're the rain, then I'm the river
If you're the sunshine, I'm the breeze
If you're a bathtub, I'm a towel
And if you're the jam, then I'm the cheese
If you're a chill, then I'm a blanket
If you're a scale, then I'm a ton
If you're a lime, then I'm a lemon
And if you're a wiener, I'm a bun
If you're a scarecrow, I'm the garden
If you're a fly, then I'm a frog
If you're an oar, then I'm a rudder
And if you're a pet, then I'm a dog
